Example of a putative haploid seed (left) with R1-nj marker expressed only on endosperm aleurone tissue on top of seed compared to a diploid seed (right). Note that the diploid seed shows R1-nj expression not only on the endosperm but also in the coleoptile of embryo. No pigmentation of anthocyanin in the embryo of haploid seed is due to the elimination of paternal chromosome carrying dominant R1-nj allele, resulting in r1 haploid genotype. No elimination of paternal chromosome took place in the endosperm.
