노란색 홑꽃형 조기개화성 스프레이 국화 ‘드림프린스’ 육성

A Spray Chrysanthemum Cultivar, ‘Dream Prince’ with Single Type Yellow Color Petals and Early Flowering Trait

  • A cultivar Dendranthema grandiflourm ‘Dream Prince’ was developed at Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services, Korea in 2012. The cultivar ‘Dream Prince’ was bred from the cross hybridized in 2009 between ‘Grand Pink’, a spray chrysanthemum cultivar with pink colored single type petals, and ‘Classy’, a spray chrysanthemum cultivar with early flowering trait. Trials were conducted from 2010 to 2012 for evaluation and selection of the cultivar, including a shading culture in spring and a retarding culture in summer. Finally, ‘Dream Prince’ was selected. The natural flowering time of ‘Dream Prince’ was October 24th, and year-round flowering is possible. Days to flowering of ‘Dream Prince’ under the short day treatment were about 48, 50 and 47 in the autumn, spring and summer, respectively. ‘Dream Prince’ has single type flower with yellow petals and the diameter of flower was 6.7cm. Number of flowers per stem was 19.6 and petals per flower were 29.0 in autumn. The plant variety protection right of ‘Dream Prince’ was granted on Korea Seed & Variety Service with No. 4876 in 2014.

국화는 Dendranthema속에 속하는 내한성 숙근초로 사용 용도에 따라 크게 절화용, 화단용, 분화용으로 구분되어 재배, 유통되고 있으며 그 중 절화가 단연 높은 생산 비중을 차지하 고 있다. 2012년도 절화국화 재배면적은 527 ha, 생산액은 705억원으로 장미, 백합과 더불어 우리나라 3대 화훼작목 중 하나로 손꼽힌다(MAFRA 2013). 절화용 국화는 다시 스탠 다드와 스프레이 국화로 구분할 수 있다. 그 중 하나의 줄기 에서 여러 개의 꽃송이가 달리는 스프레이 국화는 꽃꽂이, 꽃 다발 등의 형태로 널리 유통되고 있으며 이런 소비형태로 인 하여 다양한 화색과 화형을 갖는 품종에 대한 요구도가 점차 높아지고 있다. 아직까지는 피데스(FIDES), 데커(Dekker), 델리플로어(Deliflor) 등의 외국 품종회사로부터 품종을 수입 하여 로열티를 지불하며 재배하는 농가 비율이 높지만 국내 품종육성 기관에서 다양한 신품종 개발 노력으로 국산 품종 에 대한 인지도가 높아지고 있다. 현재 국내 육성기관은 경기 도농업기술원, 농촌진흥청, 예산국화시험장, 경남화훼시험장 등으로 드림워터(Jung et al. 2012), 드림라운드(Jung et al. 2013), 일월(Shin et al. 2005), 시크릿핑크(Lim et al. 2012), 블루호프(Hwang et al. 2013), 오렌지엔디(Kim et al. 2012), 예스모닝(Pak et al. 2012) 등의 다양한 품종이 육성되어 국 내 품종 재배면적이 점차 확대되고 있다.
2013년 국화 수출액은 686만불로 수출 점유율에 있어서도 백합, 장미, 난초에 이어 큰 비중을 차지하고 있는 작목이다. 국화 수출은 구미원예수출공사에서 수출을 본격적으로 시작 하면서 증가되기 시작하여(Lee et al. 2010) 2010년에 1,380 만불로 최고치를 기록하였으나, 그 이후에는 일본의 양적 완 화 정책, 신흥 수출국과의 가격경쟁 등으로 수출량이 감소하 고 있다. 이런 불리한 여건 속에서 지속적인 수출을 통한 내 수시장의 가격 안정화와 농가 경쟁력 강화를 위해서는 무엇 보다도 안정적인 고품질 수출물량 확보가 중요하다. 또한, 주 년 개화반응이 일정하고 생산성이 높으며 화색발현 등 상품 가치가 우수하고 상단부위에 개화가 집중되어 수확 및 선별 노동력이 적게 드는 품종 등 다양한 신품종 육성과 보급이 필 요하다. 특히, 내수용과 수출 대상국 별 선호도 높은 화색과 화형을 가진 신품종을 육성하는 것이 필요하다. 국화의 주요 수출국인 일본의 경우 화색에 있어서 30~50대는 흰색과 분 홍색을, 20대는 노란색과 분홍색 꽃을 선호하고, 화형에 있어 서는 50대는 아네모네, 30-40대는 겹꽃, 20대는 폼폰형을 선 호한다는 조사결과(Lim et al. 2013) 등을 기초로 하여 수출 대상국 별 육종목표 수립을 통한 목표형질 별 체계적인 신품 종 개발이 필요하다.
현재, 우리나라 내수시장에 유통되거나 수출되는 품종의 화색은 노란색, 흰색, 분홍색이 주를 이루고 있는데 국산품종 대부분이 저온이나 고온 환경에서 재배 시 개화가 지연되고, 화색이 제대로 발현되지 않아 선호도가 떨어진다는 재배농가 및 종묘업체의 의견이 있었다(Lee et al. 2010). 따라서 경기 도농업기술원에서는 수출비중이 높은 노란색 화색을 가지면 서 고온기 화색발현이 우수하여 여름철 수출이 가능하고 개 화반응이 빠르고 안정적이어서 주년 재배가 가능한 품종을 개발하고자 ‘Dream Prince’ 품종을 육성하게 되었다.
개화가 빠르고 균일하며 화색탈색이 적은 스프레이 국화 신품종 육성을 위하여 2009년에 설상화가 긴 분홍색 홑꽃형 스프레이 국화 ‘Grand Pink’ 품종을 모본(♀)으로 하고 설상 화가 짧은 분홍색 홑꽃형 스프레이 국화 ‘Classy’ 품종을 부 본(♂)으로 하여 인공수분을 실시하였다. 화분친 꽃가루를 1 회용 페트리디쉬에 털어 모은 후 모본친의 암술머리가 Y자로 벌어졌을 때 수분하고 유산지를 씌운 상태에서 교배 50일 후 에 종자를 채종, 선별하여 종자를 획득하였다. 채종된 종자는 피트모스가 담긴 72공 플러그트레이에 파종하였고 70일 후에 토양시비 처방이 이루어진 본포에 10 cm × 10 cm 간격으로 정식하였다. 정식 20일 후 단일 처리하여 화형과 화색이 우수 하고 개화반응이 빠른 3계통을 예비선발하였으며, 2010년부 터 2012년까지 3년간 촉성재배, 억제재배, 자연개화 작형에 서 특성 검정하였고 소비자 및 재배농가 기호도 평가 조사를 통하여 최종적으로 1계통을 선발하였다. 각 특성검정 단계에 서 단일은 정식 20~30일 후에 처리하였으며 단일처리 전에 는 삼파장 전구형 형광등을 이용한 야간전조 4시간을 통하여 장일조건을 유지하고, 단일처리는 12시간 암 상태를 유지할 수 있도록 하여 개화시까지 유지하였다. 개화 소요일수, 절화 장, 화경 등의 가변특성과 화색, 엽색 등의 형태적 특성을 농 사시험연구조사 기준(RDA 2003)과 국립종자원 신품종 심사 를 위한 국화 특성조사 요령에 따라 조사하였다. 2012년 농촌 진흥청 직무육성 심의회를 거쳐 ‘Dream Prince’로 명명된 신 품종보호권을 2013년에 국립종자원에 출원하였고, 재배심사 를 통해 품종보호권이 등록되었다.
흰녹병 저항성 검정용 식물체는 정단부를 7 cm 길이로 채 취하여 피트모스가 담긴 72공 플러그트레이에 삽목하여 발근 시키고 50공 트레이에 1회 이식한 후, Puccinia horiana 병 원균 접종 방법(Zandvoort et al. 1968)을 약간 변형하여 접 종하였다. 흰녹병 걸린 잎을 작게 자른 후 물과 섞어 상부에 골고루 뿌려 접종하고 미세한 구멍이 있는 유공비닐을 피복 하여 상대습도 90% 이상, 주간 온도 25°C 이하, 야간온도 1 5°C를 유지시켜 병 발생을 유도하였으며, 접종 25일 후에 병 발생 정도를 조사하였다.
육성경위
2009년도 봄에 화색이 연분홍이면서 설상화가 긴 홑꽃형 스프레이 국화 ‘Grand Pink’ 품종을 모본(♀)으로 하고 개화 소요일수가 짧아 조기 개화성 품종 육성에 적합한 홑꽃형 진 분홍색 스프레이 국화 ‘Classy’ 품종을 부본(♂)으로 교배조 합을 작성하여, 모본의 화색이 탈색되지 않고 지속적으로 화 색발현이 우수한 특성과 부본의 조기개화성 특성이 조합된 후대를 육성코자 50화를 교배하였다. 특히, ‘Grand Pink’ 품 종은 다른 화색의 품종과 교배하였을 경우 후대계통에서 노 란색 화색을 많이 발현시키는 경험을 토대로 ‘Classy’ 품종과 의 교배에서도 분홍색과 노란색 화색의 계통을 획득할 수 있 을 거라는 가정아래 교배조합에 활용하게 되었다.
교배 후 8개의 종자를 획득하였으며 2009년에 실생을 양 성한 후 화색이 진하고 고온기 재배 시 탈색이 적으며 단일처 리 후 개화반응이 7주~7.5주 이내의 화형이 우수한 노란색 2계통과 분홍색 1계통 총 3계통을 예비선발하였다. 2010년부 터 2012년까지 3년간 주년재배 가능성 검정을 위하여 촉성, 억제, 자연개화 작형에서 특성검정하고 소비자, 재배농가, 경 매사 등을 대상으로 한 기호도 품평회를 통해 절화특성과 기 호성이 우수한 GCS09-39-3계통을 최종 선발하였다(Fig. 1).

주요특성
‘Dream Prince’ 품종의 모본인 ‘Grand Pink’ 품종은 홑꽃 형으로 설상화 색은 RHS Color Chart에 의해 조사한 결과 연한 분홍색(PG75C)이며 부본인 ‘Classy’ 품종도 홑꽃형으 로 설상화 색은 진한 분홍색(RPG68B)이다. 분홍색 홑꽃형의 모본과 부본의 교배에서 육성된 ‘Dream Prince’는 노란색 (YG4A) 화색을 갖는 홑꽃형으로 대비품종 ‘Dream King’ (YG5A)보다 화색이 진하며 여름철 고온기에도 화색발현이 안정적인 특징이 있다. 엽색은 녹색(GG139A)으로 모본 ‘Grand Pink’의 줄기색(GG143A)과 부본 ‘Classy’의 줄기색(GGN137B) 보다 진한 녹색을 띤다(Table 1).

자연개화 작형에서 ‘Dream Prince’ 품종의 개화 소요일수 는 48일로 부본 ‘Classy’ 품종 45일보다는 3일 정도 늦지만, 모본 ‘Grand pink’ 품종 49일보다 1일 빨라 농가에서 재배하 였을 경우 단일처리 후 7주 정도에 출하 가능한 조기개화 특 성을 갖는다. 절화장은 98.6 cm로 모본 ‘Grand Pink’ 84.0 cm, 부본 ‘Classy’ 82.4 cm보다 길게 자라고, 줄기 굵기는 7.4 mm로 ‘Grand Pink’ 6.3 mm, ‘Classy’ 5.2 mm 보다 굵 게 자라, 수세가 강한 특징이 있다. 꽃의 직경은 6.7 cm로 모 본 ‘Grand Pink’ 4.8 cm와 부본 ‘Classy’ 3.9 cm에 비해 크 며, 착화수는 19.6개로 ‘Grand Pink’ 보다 8.8개, ‘Classy’ 보 다 8.2개 많았고 꽃잎수는 29.0매로 모본인 ‘Grand Pink’ 21.6매보다 많았으나 부본인 ‘Classy’ 32.6매보다는 적은 특 징이 있다(Table 2).

겨울철 전조재배와 여름철 차광재배 시 단일처리 후 각각 50일, 47일에 개화되어 주년재배가 안정적으로 가능하였으 며, 특히 고온에서 개화반응이 조금 더 빨라지는 고온 적응성 품종이었다. 착화수는 자연개화 작형 19.6개와 비교하여 전조 재배와 차광재배 시에도 각각 19.4개, 19.8개로 안정적으로 특성이 발현되는 것으로 나타났다.
전조재배 시는 대조품종 ‘Dream King’ 보다 1일 늦게, 모 본 ‘Grand Pink’ 과는 같은 날에, 부본 ‘Classy’보다는 5일 늦게 개화되었으며, 절화장은 94.6 cm로 대조품종 ‘Dream King’ 85.7 cm, 모본 ‘Grand Pink’ 86.0 cm, 부본 ‘Classy’ 81.2 cm 보다 컸으며, 착화수도 19.4개로 대조품종 ‘Dream King’ 16.1개, 모본 ‘Grand Pink’ 11.6개, 부본 ‘Classy’ 15.4 개보다 많았다(Table 3). 억제재배 시는 대비품종 ‘Dream King’ 보다 1일 빨리, 모본 ‘Grand Pink’ 보다 3일 빨리, 부 본 ‘Classy’보다는 3일 늦게 개화되었으며, 화경은 5.8 cm로 대조품종 ‘Dream King’ 3.6 cm, 모본 ‘Grand Pink’ 4.7 cm, 부본 ‘Classy’ 3.8 cm 보다 컸고, 착화수는 19.8개로 대조품 종 ‘Dream King’ 11.8개, 모본 ‘Grand Pink’ 13.2개, 부본 ‘Classy’ 15.8개 보다 많았다(Table 4).

흰녹병균 접종 25일 후에 이병엽수와 병반수를 조사한 결 과 ‘Dream Prince’와 대비품종인 ‘Dream King’ 품종 모두 강한 저항성을 보였으며, 절화수명은 21.2일로 대비품종 19.7 일보다 약간 길었다. 6회에 걸쳐 재배농가, 유통관계자, 소비 자들의 기호성을 5점 척도로 조사한 결과 ‘Dream Prince’ 품 종이 4.7로 대비품종 4.5에 비해 기호도가 높게 나타났다 (Table 5).

재배상의 유의점
고온기 화색발현이 우수한 품종이나 극고온 시에는 화색이 흐려지고(YG10A) 화경이 작아질 수 있으므로 적정 생육 온 도를 유지해 주는 것이 필요하다. 자연개화 작형에서는 화경 이 6.7 cm이나 겨울과 여름재배 시에는 5.8 cm로 꽃이 작아 지고 극고온 시에는 화경이 5.1 cm 이하로 작아지는 특징이 있다. 꽃목 길이가 길어지지 않도록 광이나 온도를 고려하면 서 재배해야 하며 2,000배액의 N-dimethylaminosuccinamic acid(B-9)을 단일처리 20일 후 1회 살포하면 꽃목 길이를 평 균 14.6 cm에서 4 cm 정도 줄일 수 있다. 수세가 강하여 온 도가 높을 경우에는 줄기가 비는 현상이 나타날 수 있으므로 수확작업 시 줄기 부러짐에 주의하여 수확해야 한다. 이를 방 지하기 위하여 염화칼슘 1,000배액을 전 재배기간 동안 관주 나 엽면살포 방법으로 3~4회 시비하여 줄기를 단단하게 재 배하는 것이 좋다. 일시 개화성으로 개화 후 꽃 벌어짐이 빠 르고 만개 후에는 꽃잎이 뒤로 약간 젖혀지는 특성이 있으므 로 조기 수확하여 출하하는 것이 유리하다.
경기도농업기술원에서 2012년도에 개발한 ‘Dream Prince’ 품종은 분홍색 홑꽃형 스프레이 국화 ‘Grand Pink’ 품종을 모본(♀)으로 하고 분홍색 홑꽃형 스프레이 국화 ‘Classy’ 품 종을 부본(♂)으로 2009년에 교배하여 육성되었다. 2009년에 실생을 양성한 후 2010년부터 2012년까지 자연, 촉성, 억제 작형별 1~3차 특성검정을 통해 개화특성과 기호도가 우수한 GCS09-39-3(Gyeongkyo B1-19) 계통을 최종 선발하여 ‘Dream Prince’로 명명하였다. 2013년 1월 31일에 국립종자 원에 품종보호출원(출원 2013-80)하고 2014년 3월 19일에 품종보호권이 등록되었다(등록번호 제 4876호).
‘Dream Prince’ 품종은 진한 노란색 꽃잎을 가진 홑꽃형 스프레이 형태의 절화용 품종으로 개화 소요일수가 48일인 조기 개화성 품종이다. 착화수는 19.6개로 대비품종보다 2.8 개 더 많이 피고, 꽃잎수는 29매로 대비품종에 비해 3.7매 많 으며, 줄기 굵기는 7.4 mm로 대비품종에 비해 1.7 mm 굵어 튼튼하고, 절화장은 98.6 cm로 대비품종 84.7 cm에 비해 13.9 cm정도 자람성이 우수한 특징이 있다. 겨울철 전조재배 와 여름철 차광재배에서도 특성이 균일하게 발현하여 주년재 배가 가능하였다.
