  • ‘Yeongbo’ is a variety of japonica rice (Oryza sativa L.) with good eating quality, resistance to rice stripe virus, rice dwarf virus, and bacterial blight disease. It was developed by the rice breeding team of the Yeongdeok Branch, National Institute Crop Science, Rural Development Administration in 2014. This variety was derived from a cross between ‘Yeongdeog35’ with good eating quality and ‘Saekyehwa’ with good plant type in the 2002 summer season. A promising line selected through the pedigree breeding method, YR24269-1-2-1-2-3-3, was designated as ‘Yeongdeog57’ in 2011. After a local adaptability test at nine locations from 2012 to 2014, ‘Yeongdeog57’ was released under the name of ‘Yeongbo’ in 2014. ‘Yeongbo’ had a short culm length of 66 cm and medium growth duration. This variety was resistant to K1, K2, and K3 races of bacterial blight, rice stripe virus, and dwarf virus, and moderately resistant to leaf blast disease. ‘Yeongbo’ had translucent and clear milled rice kernel without white core and belly, and good eating quality according to a panel test. The yield potential of ‘Yeongbo’ in milled rice was approximately 5.75 MT/ha at an ordinary fertilizer level in the local adaptability test. This cultivar would be adaptable to middle plain area, south plain area, Yeongnam plain area, east costal area, and south mid-mountainous area. (Registration No.6804)

최근까지 동해안 지역에 적응하는 우수한 벼 품종이 육성되었는데 주로 중생종의 고품질 품종 이었다(RDA 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014). 그러나 앞으로는 기후 온난화를 대비하여 출수기가 약간 더 빠르고 복합내병성이면서 재배안전성이 높은 중생종을 개발하여 농가에서 선택 할 수 있는 벼 품종 선택의 폭도 넓힐 필요가 있다(Kim et al. 2009. Kim et al. 2014). 이러한 쌀 품종 개발에 있어서 육종의 목표는 수량성 증대는 물론이고 소비자로부터 요구되고 있는 외관이 우수하며 밥맛이 좋은 고품질의 벼가 될 것이다. 또한, 동해안 지역은 한랭 과습한 바람과 태백산맥을 넘어오는 고온 건조풍으로 인한 각종 기상재해의 피해를 비롯하여 바이러스 등 병해 발생이 잦은 지역으로 각종 병해충에 강하고 거센 바람에도 쓰러지지 않고 잘 견디는 복합 내재해 품종의 개발이 요구된다. 국내 밥쌀용 품종 대부분은 벼줄무늬잎마름병에 강하나 오갈병에 약하여 벼줄무늬잎마름병 뿐만 아니라 오갈병에도 강하여 기후변화 대응 농가 벼 품종 선택의 폭을 넓혀 재배안전성을 증진시킬 수 있는 고품질, 밥맛 양호, 바이러스(줄무늬잎마름병, 오갈병), 벼흰잎마름병 저항성인 품종 개발을 위하여 바이러스병 등 내병성을 도입하고자 복합내병성이면서 단간으로 직립형 초형이면서 재배안전성이 좋은 ‘영덕35호’를 모본으로 하고 수량성을 갖추고 밥맛이 우수하여 고품질이면서 또한 초형이 좋은 ‘새계화’를 부본으로 인공교배를 실시하고 계통육종법으로 전개 하면서 바이러스병 저항성 검정을 실시하여 저항성 우수계통을 선발하는 과정에서 영남지역의 벼농사 재배적 측면에서 기 개발된 바이러스 저항성 품종 중 고품질이면서 중생종인 품종을 대체 할 수 있는 계통을 선발하였다. 또한 벼 신품종 육종 선발과정에서 바이러스병 저항성을 도입하고자 벼 지역적응성시험에서 바이러스 포장저항성검정과 실내유묘검정을 벼 지역적응성 시험 항목에 도입하였으며, 1995년부터 하우스를 이용한 실내검정법을 도입 저항성 벼 품종 개발이 본격적으로 수행되었다.
국립식량과학원 영덕출장소에서는 기존의 벼줄무늬잎마름병 뿐만 아니라 오갈병에도 저항성인 품종 개발로 영남지역 및 남부지방에서 기후변화 및 친환경재배에 적응하는 복합내병성을 갖추고 고품질 안전 다수성 중생종 벼 품종 육성하게 되었다. 그 결과 2014년 쌀 모양이 좋고 밥맛이 양호하며 특히 바이러스병인 줄무늬잎마름병과 오갈병, 흰잎마름병 K1, K2, K3 균계에 저항성인 중생종 ‘영보’를 육성하여 이에 대한 육성경위와 주요특성을 보고하고자 한다(RDA 2014).
‘영보’ 품종 육성을 위해 2002년 여름철에 초형이 좋은 ‘영덕35호’를 모본으로 다수성이면서 밥맛이 우수하고 초형이 좋은 ‘새계화’를 부본으로 인공교배를 실시하고 2003년 F1 식물체를 양성하여 YR24269의 교배번호를 부여하였다(NYAES 2002, 2003). 계통육성시험 및 생산력검정시험은 2004년부터 2011년까지 국립식량과학원 영덕출장소 시험포장에서 수행하였는데 재배방법은 4월 20일 파종하여 30일간 육묘한 후 5월 20일에 30×15 cm의 재식거리로 초기세대는 주당 1본, 생산력검정 시험은 주당 3본씩 이앙하고, 시비량은 N-P2O5-K2O=9-4.5-5.7 kg/10a로 재배하고 선발하였다. 기타 재배방법은 벼 표준재배법에 따라 수행하였다(YARI 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, NICS 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011). 지역적응시험은 2012년부터 2014년까지 3개년 동안 국립식량과학원 영덕출장소, 중부작물부(수원), 남부작물부(밀양), 충북농업기술원(청원), 경남농업기술원(진주), 경북농업기술원(대구, 선산, 안동), 충북농업기술원(보은) 등 9개소에서는 보통기재배, 밀양에서는 이모작재배을 수행하였고, 표준품종인 ‘화성벼’와 ‘남평벼’를 공시하여 수행하였다(RDA 2012, 2013, 2014). 각 시험지별 재배방법은 보통기재배는 영덕, 수원, 보은, 청원은 4월 25일 파종하여 30일간 육묘한 후 5월 25일에, 밀양, 진주, 대구, 선산, 안동은 4월 30일 파종하여 30일간 육묘한 후 5월 30일에 30×15 cm의 재식거리로 주당 3본씩 이앙하였으며, 이모작은 6월 1일 파종하여 25일간 육묘한 후 6월 25일에 30× 12 cm의 재식거리로 주당 5본씩 이앙하고, 시비량은 N-P2O5-K2O =9-4.5-5.7 kg/10a로 재배하였다. 그 밖의 재배관리와 품종육성을 위한 주요 농업적 특성, 수량특성, 생리장해 및 병해충 저항성, 도정특성 조사는 농촌진흥청 신품종개발공동연구사업 과제수행계획서 조사기준에 준하여 실시하였다(RDA 2011). 벼 바이러스병 저항성계통을 선발하기 위해 국립식량과학원 남부작물부(밀양)에서 실내유묘검정 하우스를 이용 실내유묘 집단접종검정 방법으로 벼줄무늬잎마름병, 벼오갈병, 벼검은줄오갈병을 검정대상 재료의 본엽 2~3엽기에 보독충을(벼 바이러스 이병주에 매개충 흡즙시켜 보독충 창출 사육) 3~4일동안 접종하고 접종 후 30일에 벼 바이러스병 저항성 정도를 조사였다(RDA 2011).
육성경위
국립식량과학원 영덕출장소에서 2002년 하계에 우리나라 동해안 및 영남지역에서 출수기가 적당하면서 밥맛이 뛰어나고 재배 안정성이 높은 최고품질 벼 품종을 육성할 목적으로 초형이 좋은 ‘영덕35호’를 모본으로 다수성이면서 밥맛이 우수하고 초형이 좋은 ‘새계화’를 부본으로 인공교배를 실시하고, 2003년 하계에 41개체의 F1 식물체를 양성하여 YR24269의 교배번호를 부여하였다. 2004년 하계포장에 전개한 F2 집단을 포장과 실내 선발하여 2005년 하계에 F3세대 66계통을 육성하고, 이후 F4~F6세대를 계통육종법으로 전개하면서 예비선발 시험을 실시하고 고품질이면서 현미 외관특성이 우수하고 병해 및 재해에 안정적인 계통을 선발하여 2010년 생산력검정예비시험 2010-2011년 생산력검정본시험을 실시 한 후 중생이면서 다수성이고 재배 안정성인 YR24269-1-2-1-2-3-3을 선발하여 ‘영덕57호’로 명명하였다(YARI 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007). 2012년~2014년까지 3년간 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과(Figs. 1, 2). 중생종이면서 쌀 품위가 양호하고 밥맛이 있으며 내병성이 양호한 것으로 평가되어 2014년 12월 농작물 직무육성 신품종 선정위원회에서 국가품종목록으로 등재할 것을 결정하고 ‘영보’로 명명하여 적응지역인 중부평야지, 동남부해안지, 남부중산간지 및 영남평야지에 보급하게 되었다(RDA 2014).

주요특성

1. 출수기

보통기 보비재배 출수기는 중부평야지, 남부중산간지, 동남부해안지에서 ‘화성벼’에 비해 1일 빠르고, 영남평야지에서 ‘남평벼’보다 6일 빨라 9개소 보통기 평균 출수기는 8월 8일이며, 이모작재배에서는 ‘화성벼’보다 2일 늦은 중생종이고 통계적으로 유의하였다(Table 1).

2. 잎과 줄기

잎은 Table 2에서 보는 바와 같이 녹색이며 잎의 길이와 너비는 화성벼와 비슷하고 직립성으로 초형이 양호하다. 줄기는 ‘화성벼’와 보다 약간 더 굵으며 강도는 중정도이고 간장은 66 cm로 ‘화성벼’보다 13 cm 짧은 품종이다. 이삭 길이는 21 cm로 ‘화성벼’와 같으며 착립밀도는 약간 조밀하다. 벼 알은 까락이 거의 없으며 탈립은 잘 안되는 편이고 영색은 황백색이고 숙색은 양호하다(Table 3).

3. 수량구성요소

주당수수는 ‘화성벼’와 비슷하고, 수당립수는 11개 많으며, 등숙비율은 ‘화성벼’보다 낮은 수준이며, 현미천립중은 ‘화성벼’보다 0.4 g 무거운 중립종이다(Table 4).

4. 품질특성

입형은 현미장폭비가 1.80로 단원형이며 심백은 거의 없고, ‘화성벼’보다 맑고 투명하며, 제현율, 도정율은 ‘화성벼’와 보다 높다(Table 5). 단백질함량은 ‘화성벼’보다 낮고, 밥맛은 ‘화성벼’와 보다 양호하다(Table 6).

5. 생리장해 견딤성

못자리일수 50 일묘 이앙시에 불시출수가 되지 않았으며 위조에는 강한 편이고 성숙기의 엽노화가 느린 편이다. 내냉성 검정 결과 출수지연, 임실율은 ‘화성벼’보다 떨어져 내냉성은 중정도이며, 내풍성저항성 정도는 ‘화성벼’와 같고, 수발아는 ‘화성벼’보다 덜 되었다(Table 7).

6. 내도복성

벼 키 및 중심고는 ‘화성벼’ 보다 낮으나, 도복지수와 포장도복 저항성은 ‘화성벼’와 비슷 하였다(Table 8).

7. 병해충 저항성

'12~'14년 전국 14개소에서 실시한 잎도열병 밭못자리 검정에서 ‘화성벼’에 비해 더 강한 반응을 보였고, 이삭도열병 포장검정 6개 지역에서 이삭도열병 포장검정 6개 지역에서 발병수율이 적어 ‘화성벼’에 비해 강한 편이었다(Table 9). 도열병 내구저항성 검정에서 잎도열병 병반면적률이 ‘화성벼’보다 적었고, 친화성균주수도 ‘화성벼’보다 적었으나 내구성 반응은 같았다(Table 10). ‘영보’는 흰잎마름병(K1~K3)에 저항성이고(Table 11) 바이러스병인 줄무늬잎마름병과 오갈병에 저항성 이나 검은줄오갈병에는 약하다. 충해인 벼멸구와 애멸구에는 저항성이 없었다(Table 12)

수량성

1. 생산력검정시험

'10~'11년 보통기 보비재배에서 평균 쌀수량이 5.31 MT/ha으로 ‘화성벼’보다 8% 증수하였다(Table 13).

2. 지역적응시험

수량성은 '12~'14년 3개년간 중부평야지, 남부중산간지, 동남부해안지 및 영남평지에서 실시한 지역적응시험 보통기 보비재배 9개소에서 쌀수량이 5.75 MT/ha으로 조사되었고, 이모작재배에서는 5.54 MT/ha으로 ‘화성벼’ 대비 11% 증수하여 이모작 적응성이 좋았다(Tables 14, 15).

3. 재배상의 유의점

중부평야지, 동해안 냉조풍지, 영남평야지 및 남부중산간지에 적응하는 중생종 품종으로 간장이 긴 편은 아니나 질소질 비료 과다시 미질저하, 도복 및 병해충 발생이 우려되므로 적정균형시비 하여야 하며, 중생종으로 영남평야지에서 1모작 조기 이앙시 출수가 빨라져 미질저하가 우려되므로 고품질 쌀 생산을 위해서는 적기이앙 및 적기수확 하여야 한다. 냉수용출답이나 극만식재배는 피하는 것이 좋다.
동해안 및 영남지역에서 출수기가 적당하면서 밥맛이 뛰어나고 재배 안정성이 높은 고품질 벼 품종을 육성할 목적으로 ‘영덕35호’를 모본으로 다수성이면서 밥맛이 우수하고 초형이 좋은 ‘새계화’를 부본으로 인공교배를 후 계통육종법으로 전개하면서 예비선발시험, 2010년 생산력검정예비시험, 2011-2012년 생산력검정본시험을 한 후 중생이면서 다수성이고 쌀 외관이 우수하면서 재배 안정성인 YR24269-1-2-1-2-3-3을 선발하여 ‘영덕57호’로 명명하였다. 2012년~2014년까지 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과 중생종이면서 품위가 좋고 밥맛이 양호하며 내병성이 양호한 것으로 평가되어 2014년 12월 농작물 직무육성 신품종 선정위원회에서 국가품종목록으로 등재 할 것을 결정하였다. 평균 출수기가 8월 8일로 ‘화성벼’보다 1일 빠른 중생종이며, 직립 초형이고 탈립은 잘되지 않고 이삭추출은 양호 하고 까락이 거의 없다. 수당립수는 ‘화성벼’보다 많으며 현미천립중도 23.1 g으로 ‘화성벼’보다 무거우며, 도정특성은 ‘화성벼’와 비슷하고 쌀알이 단원형이며 맑고 투명하며 밥맛은 ‘화성벼’와 보다 우수하다. 불시출수는 안되는 편이고, 위조현상에 강하고 성숙기 엽노화가 느린 편이며 내냉성은 ‘화성벼’와 같다. 잎도열병 밭못자리 검정 결과 중강의 저항성을 보였고 줄무늬잎마름병, 오갈병 및 흰잎마름병(K1, K2, K3)에는 강하나 검은줄오갈병에 약하고 벼멸구 등 충해에는 감수성이다. 쌀수량성은 지역적응시험 보통기재배 9개소에서 5.75 MT/ha로 조사되었으며, 이모작 적응성 높아았고, 적응지역은 중부평야지, 남부중산간지, 동해안냉조풍지 및 영남평야지이다.
본 품종은 농촌진흥청 연구사업(세부과제번호: PJ01187205 동해안 냉조풍지 적응 고품질 벼 품종 개발)의 지원에 의해 이루어진 것이며, 본 품종을 육성하기까지 협력하여 주신 국립식량과학원과의 벼 육종연구진, 농촌진흥청 연구정책국, 농촌지원국 및 각도 농업기술원 관계관 여러분께 깊은 감사를 드리는 바이다.
