Korean. J. Breed. Sci. 2024;56(3):337-343.
Published online September 1, 2024
DOI: https://doi.org/10.9787/KJBS.2024.56.3.337

A new persimmon (Diospyros kaki L. Thunb.) cultivar ‘Yeonsu’ was derived from a cross between ‘Ro-19’ and ‘Taishu’ in 2009 and finally selected in 2016. The average maturing date was October 20th in Yeoung-am province. ‘Yeonsu’ has a medium average fruit size (235 g) and high soluble solids (17.0 °Bx). The flesh taste was good with soft texture and juice. The fruit shape was very wide ovule when viewed from the side and the fruit's skin color was yellow-orange. Physiological disorders, including fruit cracking or skin fine cracking rarely occurred, but intense sunlight may cause pericarp blackening (Registration No. 8918).

Korean. J. Breed. Sci. 2024;56(2):125-130.
Published online June 1, 2024
DOI: https://doi.org/10.9787/KJBS.2024.56.2.125

‘Olnuri’ is a new variety of early ripening sweet persimmon obtained in 2006 by crossing the mid-ripening sweet persimmons ‘Shinshu’ and ‘Taishuu’ at Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services. Line selection among the seedlings of ‘Shinshu’ and ‘Taishuu’ hybrids was carried out in 2014, and detailed characteristic investigations on fruit quality and tree growth were conducted from 2018 to 2019. ‘Olnuri’ matured around September 24, an average of 25 days earlier than ‘Uenishiwase.’ The tree is semi-upright, and only female flowers bloom. The trees bear oblate fruits with orange skin. The average weight of the fruit is 280 g, which is significantly higher than that of ‘Uenishiwase’ (190 g). The soluble solids content is higher and the firmness is lower than that of ‘Uenishiwase.’ There is almost no apex splitting or calyx end cracking. The marketable fruit rate is 80.0%, which is lower than that of ‘Uenishiwase’ (91.2%, data not shown). In the future, as a fully ripened persimmon in late September, ‘Olnuri’ is expected to play a big role in creating the sweet persimmon market during the autumn harvest period (Registration No. 8917).

Korean. J. Breed. Sci. 2021;53(4):495-499.
Published online December 1, 2021
DOI: https://doi.org/10.9787/KJBS.2021.53.4.495

In 2005, a new persimmon (Diospyros kaki L. Thunb.) cultivar ‘Wonchu’ was derived by crossing ‘Shinsyu’ and ‘Taishu’, and it was finally selected in 2015. In the Yeoung-am province, the average maturing date of the fruit of this cultivar was October 3rd. The quantitative characteristics of the fruit of ‘Wonchu’ include a larger size (324 g on average) and presence of high soluble-solids (approximately 15.1 °Brix). The flesh of the fruit is juicy, has a crispy texture, and tastes good. The shape of the fruit is round oblate (when looked from the side), and the color of its skin is orange. Physiological disorders, such as fruit cracking or fine skin cracking, rarely occur (Registration No. 8579).

대과종 단감 신품종 ‘단누리’
A New Sweet Persimmon Cultivar, ‘Dannuri’, with Large-Sized Fruits
Eun-Gyeong Kim, Yeo-Ok Park, Ji-Young Son, Gwang-Hwan Ahn, Hae-Suk Yoon, Young-Ho Chang
Korean. J. Breed. Sci. 2021;53(2):186-189.
Published online June 1, 2021
DOI: https://doi.org/10.9787/KJBS.2021.53.2.186

To develop early ripening sweet persimmon varieties with high fruit qualities, ‘Danyeon 104’ was crossed with ‘Taishuu’ at the Sweet Persimmon Research Institute, Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services in 2010. In 2015, ‘10-1-60’ was selected and investigated from among the seedlings of this cross, and in 2018, it was confirmed as a superior variety for the production of large-sized sweet persimmon with good fruit qualities and was named ‘Dannuri’. The ‘Dannuri’ trees grew vigorously in the early stage and exhibited a spreading shape as they aged. The flowers possessed both the female and male organs. The full blooming date of ‘Dannuri’ was May 22, which was close to that of ‘Taishuu’ (May 19). The average harvest time of ‘Dannuri’ was 143 days after the full bloom, and it matured approximately one week earlier than ‘Taishuu’. The fruits of ‘Dannuri’ were characterized by beautiful orange skin color with round flat shape with an average weight of 320 g—which was 1.2-fold higher than that of ‘Taishuu’ (265 g)—and soluble solids content of 18.4 °Brix, which was also higher than that of ‘Taishuu’ (17.2 °Brix). Additionally, the marketable fruit rate of ‘Dannuri’ was 90.0%, which was also higher than that of ‘Taishuu’ (70.2%), and this could be attributed to less skin blackening. For the stable production of ‘Dannuri’, it is necessary to maintain proper tree vigor by paying extra attention to the use of organic compost (Registration No. 8504).

A new persimmon (Diospyros kaki L. Thunb.) cultivar, ‘Gampung’, a progeny derived from the cross between ‘Daeandangam’ and ‘Taishu’ in 2004, was finally selected in 2013. Fruits of ‘Gampung’ were available for harvest on October 24 in the Yeong-am area. It had a very large fruit size of 413 g on average, and high soluble solids of approximately 14.7 °Bx. Its flesh taste was good, and it had a crispy texture and rich juice. The shape of the fruit was round oblate from the side view, and it had orange skin. Physiological disorders such as fruit cracking or skin fine cracking rarely occurred in this cultivar (Registration No. 8030).

DOI: https://doi.org/10.9787/KJBS.2020.52.3.258

AbstractIn 2014, a new high-quality, pollination-constant, non-astringent persimmon (Diospyros kaki L. Thunb.) cultivar, ‘Wonmi’, a breeding of ‘Fuyu’ and ‘Taishu’ from 2005, was developed. ‘Wonmi’ fruit were harvested on October 8 in Yeongam, South Korea. The fruit are medium-sized (220 g on average), with a high amount of soluble solids (15.1 °Bx). The juicy flesh has a pleasant taste and crispy texture. The fruit shape is round oblate, and the skin color is orange with a graceful appearance. Physiological disorders, such as stylar-end or fine skin cracking, rarely occur in this cultivar (Registration No. 7724).
