  • ‘Jinkwang’, a japonica rice variety, was developed by a cross between ‘Hopum’ (IT23527) and the F1 hybrid of ‘Unkwang’ (IT217814) and ‘Koshihikari’ (IT157335) by the rice breeding team at NICS in 2016. ‘Unkwang’ shows an early maturity and high yield and ‘Koshihikari’ is a high-quality variety. The growth duration of ‘Jinkwang’ in the paddy field was 114 days in the middle plain region in Korea, which was six days later than that of ‘Jopyeong’. The culm length of ‘Jinkwang’ was 62 cm, which was 13 cm shorter than that of ‘Jopyeong’. The panicle of ‘Jinkwang’ was composed of 100 spikelets. The viviparous germination rate of ‘Jinkwang’ was 28.3%. ‘Jinkwang’ showed resistance to blast and bacterial blight (K1, K2, and K3 races); however, it was susceptible to stripe virus, dwarf and black-streaked dwarf viruses, and plant hoppers. The milled rice grains of ‘Jinkwang’ showed an excellent palatability index (0.42) and lower protein content (6.2%) than that of ‘Jopyeong’. The grain milling characteristics were better than those of ‘Jopyeong’, especially in terms of brown/rough rice ratio and milled/rough rice ratio (75.9%). ‘Jinkwang’ showed a milled rice productivity of 5.91 MT/ha at eight sites under ordinary cultivation conditions. 최근 우리가 먹고 있는 쌀 산업은 수량성에서 소비자가 선호하는 품질위주의 쌀을 생산하는 농업으로 변해가고 있다. 특히, 쌀 소비가 지속적으로 감소하면서 쌀 재고량의 관리비용이 발생하고 있으므로 농촌진흥청은 쌀 소비량 증대 및 쌀 가격 보전을 위하여 적정 수량성에 밥맛이 좋은 품종을 육성하는데 중점을 두고 있다. 벼를 재배하는 농업환경은 지구 온난화에 따라 생태계의 변화에 대한 우려가 높아지고 있으며, 이상기후의 영향으로 온도와 강수량의 변화를 초래하기도 한다. 이상기후에 따라 지구 온난화로 대기권의 온도가 상승하기도 하고 강수량의 변동으로 지역에 따라 폭우나 극심한 가뭄현상의 증가를 보고한 바 있다(Yun et al. 2001). 또한 이상기후로 평년에는 발생하지 않던 새로운 병해충이 발생하기도 하고, 벼가 출수되어 익어가는 시기에 한반도를 통과하는 태풍이 자주 발생하는 등 기상재해가 증가하고 있으며 여러가지 재해가 복합적으로 영향을 주고 있다. 이와 같이 기후변화에 따른 농업환경의 변화에 적응하려면 온도상승에 따라 출수기가 빨라지지 않는 기본영양생장성을 가지고 있고 출수기 고온조건에서 불임이나 벼알이 충실히 영글수 있는 고온등숙성 품종의 개발이 품종개발에 중요한 목표로 요구되고 있다(Ko et al. 2004). 중부지역의 벼 품종 개발은 중만생종이며 도열병, 흰잎마름병, 줄무의잎마름병 등에 복합내병성이고 밥 맛이 아주 좋은 최고품질 품종 삼광(Kim et al. 2007)이 육성되어 재배되고, 중생종으로 불량환경에 적응성이 높고 줄무늬잎마름병에 저항성인 화성(Moom et al. 1986)품종과 내도복성이며 줄무늬잎마름병에 저항성인 중생골드(Cho et al. 2013) 품종이 대표적이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 육성된 ‘진광’은 수량성이 우수하지만 성숙기간이 길어서 쌀의 품질이 고르지 못한 ‘운광’품종의 단점을 개선하고자 성숙기가 일정하고 밥맛이 우수하지만 도복에 약한 ‘고시히카리’와 인공교배하여 얻은 잡종1세대에 도복에 강한 ‘호품’을 교배하여 기존의 ‘고시히카리’의 우수한 밥맛에 도복저항성을 증진시킨 ‘진광’를 육성하였다. ‘진광’은 중부지역에서 재배하기 적합한 수확기와 작부체계의 다양성을 위하여 조생종이면서 복합내병성이고 최고품질 쌀 품종으로 육성 경위 및 주요 특성을 보고하고자 한다.
본 시험에서 육성된 ‘진광’은 ‘수원575호’로 2014 ~ 2016년 3년간 중부평야지 4개 지역과 중부산간지 3, 동북부해안지1개 등 8개 지역에서 보통기 보비재배로 대비품종을 ‘조평’으로 비교 검토하였다(RDA 2015a, 2016a, 2017). 중부평야지에서는 4월 25일에 파종하였고 이앙은 5월 25일에 재식거리 30 × 15 cm로 주당 3본씩 이앙하였으며, 중부산간지 및 동북부해안지에서는 4월 20일에 파종하고 이앙은 5월 20일에 재식거리를 30 × 15 cm로 주당 5본씩 이앙하였다. 시비량은 N-P2O5-K2O를 각각 성분량으로 9-4.5-5.7 kg/10a을 시용하였다. 질소는 기비로 50%, 분얼비 20%와 수비 30%로 3회에 걸처 분시하였고, 인산은 전량을 기비로, 칼리는 기비 70%, 수비 30%로 나누어 시용하였다. 벼 잎도열병검정은 12개 지역에서 밭못자리 상태로 파종하여 30일 후 계통들의 이병 정도를 조사하였다. 흰잎마름병은 K1, K2, K3 및 K3a 균계를 포장에서 최고분얼기에 개체별로 가위절엽접종하여 30일 후에 이병정도를 조사하였다. 유묘 바이러스검정은 본엽 2~3엽기에 바이러스 보독충 접종을 3~4일간 실시하고, 접종 후 30일에 조사하였다. 기타 시험포장의 재배관리와 농업형질, 수량구성요소, 수량성 및 도정특성은 농촌진흥청에서 발간한 신품종개발 공동연구사업 조사기준에 준하여 실시하였다(RDA 2014, 2015b, 2016b).
육성 경위
‘진광’은 중부지역에서 재배하기 적합한 고품질 품종을 육성할 목적으로 2007년 하계에 조생이고 쌀 수량성이 높은 ‘운광(IT217008283)’과 준조생이고 성숙기가 고르고 밥맛 우수하지만 도복에 약한 도입품종 ‘고시히카리(IT157335)’를 인공교배하여 얻은 잡종1세대에 흰잎마름병과 줄무늬잎마름병에 저항성이고 도복에 강한 ‘호품’을 교배하여 교배번호 SR31511을 부여한 후, F1 세대 34개체를 양성하였다. F1세대에서 꽃가루배양을 실시하여 HB3104번호를 부여하고 AC1세대에서 96개체을 양성하였다. AC2세대에서 개체별로 세대를 전개하여 3계통을 선발하였다. AC3세대에 3계통를 공시하여 단간이며 숙색이 우수한 1계통을 선발하였다. AC3세대부터 계통으로 세대를 진전하며 주요 병해충 및 미질검정을 병행하여 유망한 SR31511-HB3104-29-1계통을 선발하였다. 선발된 우량계통에 대해 2012년에 생산력검정시험을 실시 한 결과 ‘운광’과 출수기는 비슷하나 포장성숙이 일정하여 쌀의 외관품질이 우수하고 흰잎마름병에 저항성이고, 도복에 강한 단간이면서 밥맛이 우수하여 ‘수원575호’로 계통명을 부여하였다. 2014년부터 2016년까지 지역적응시험3년을 실시한 결과 대비 품종인 ‘조평’에 대비하여 내병성, 내도복성 및 밥맛이 우수하여 2016년 12월 농촌진흥청 직무육성 신품종선정위원회에서 조생종 최고품질 품종으로 선정됨과 동시에 ‘진광’으로 명명되었다. ‘진광’의 육성과정과 계보도는 Fig. 1 및 Fig. 2와 같다.

주요특성

1. 주요 농업적 특성

‘진광’은 중부평야지 재배에서 이앙부터 성숙기까지의 본답생육일수가 114일로 대비품종 ‘조평’보다 6일 늦었고 모본인 ‘운광’보다는 하루 늦은 조생종이다(Table 1). 간장은 62 cm로 조평의 75 cm보다 13 cm적은 단간이고, 이삭길이는 20 cm로 조평보다 1 cm길고, 주당 이삭수가 16개로 ‘조평’보다 1개 많았으며, 이삭당 벼알수는 100개로 ‘조평’의 102개와 비슷하였다. 등숙비율은 75.9%로 대비품종 ‘조평’ 80.5%보다 낮으며, 현미 천립중도 21.8 g으로 ‘조평’보다 조금 무거운 중립종이다.

2. 병해충 저항성

‘진광’은 전국 12개 지역에서 실시한 잎도열병 밭못자리 검정 결과 평균 4.2로 ‘조평’의 2.6보다 조금 약한 반응을 보였고, 목도열병 포장검정에서 익산과 이천의 2개소 평균 이병수율은 3.2%로 조평 0.4보다 높았다. 또한 ‘진광’은 친화성 균주가 23개중 17개로 조평의 3보다 많았으며, 내구저항성도 ‘조평’보다 약한 반응을 보였다. ‘진광’은 K1(HB1013 균주), K2(HB1013), K3(HB1015) 균계에 저항성이고, K3a (HB1009) 균계에는 이병성이었으며(Table 2). 바이러스병 종류인 줄무늬잎마름병, 오갈병 및 벼멸구에 대한 저항성은 없었다(Table 3).

3. 생리장해 저항성

‘진광’은 불시출수는 50일 묘에서 39% 로 조평의 52%보다 낮은 경향이었고, 성숙기 하엽의 노화가 느렸으며 위조현상은 나타나지 않았다(Table 4). 냉수처리 내냉성 검정 결과 출수지연일수가 ‘조평’보다 3일 짧았고, 냉수구 임실율은 48%으로 ‘조평’의 50%보다 조금 낮았으며 성숙기 내냉성은 중정도로 ‘조평’하고 같은 반응을 보였다. 출수후 황숙기 수발아검정에서 2014~ 2016년 3년 평균 28.3%로 ‘조평’의 29.2%와 비슷한 수발아율을 보였다. ‘진광’은 도복특성검정에서 3절 간장은 6.5 cm로 대비품종인 ‘조평’보다 짧았고, 좌절중은 1,168 g으로 무거웠다. 또한, 벼 키도 82 cm로 조평보다 12 cm 작았고, 도복지수도 낮아서 도복관련 특성은 대비품종 ‘조평’보다 우수하였고, 포장 도복도 1정도로 ‘조평’의 2보다는 강한 반응을 보였다(Table 5).

4. 미질 및 도정 특성

‘진광’의 입형은 현미 장폭비가 1.69로 중단원립이고, 백미 외관은 심복이 0이고 복백이1로서 맑고 투명 하였다. 알칼리붕괴도는 5.9이었고, 단백질함량은 6.2%으로 낮았고, 아밀로스함량도 17.9%로 ‘조평’보다 낮은 수준이었다. 식미관능검정 결과 밥맛은 0.42로 ‘조평’의 -0.02보다 매우 우수하였다(Table 6). ‘진광’의 도정특성에서 제현율은 82.7%로 대비품종 ‘조평’ 80.1% 보다 우수하였으며, 도정율도 75.9%로 대배품종 73.0%보다 높았다. 도정된 쌀의 완전미율이86.5%로 ‘조평’의 89.8% 보다 낮았으나, 완전미도정수율은 65.6%로 ‘조평’하고 같은 특성을 보였다(Table 7).

5. 수량성

‘진광’의 백미수량은 3년 간(2014~2016년) 실시한 지역적응시험 결과 중부평야지 및 중부중산간지, 동북부해안지 등 8개소에서 보통기 보비재배 평균 쌀수량은 5.91 MT/ha로 대비품종 ‘조평’의 5.53 MT/ha 보다 7% 많은 수량성을 보였다(Table 8).

재배상의 유의점
‘진광’은 질소질 비료를 과용하면 쌀 품질이 좋지 않고, 등숙저하, 숙색불량 및 병해충의 발생과 도복이 우려되므로 품종특성에 맞는 적정 균형시비가 필요하다. 특히 바이러스병인 줄무늬잎마름병, 오갈병 및 멸구류에 저항성이 없으므로 적기 기본방제가 필요하고, 성숙기 포장에서 조기낙수시 등숙이 불량하여 불완전미 발생 및 도정수율이 낮아질 수 있으며, 내냉성에 중간 정도이므로 산간지 및 냉수용출답이나 극만식재배를 피해야 한다.
‘진광’은 중부지역 적응하는 고품질 조생품종을 육성할 목적으로 2007년 하계에 조생종이며 다수성인 ‘운광’하고, 도복은 약하지만 준조생으로 밥맛이 우수한 도입품종 ‘고시히카리’를 인공교배한 잡종1세대에 복합내병성이며 도복에 강한 ‘호품’을 3원교배하였다. 3원교배된 F1개체를 양성하며 조기에 유전특성을 고정하고자 꽃가루 배양을 실시하고 육성계통 세대 진전 후 SR31511-HB3104-29-1계통을 선발하여 ‘수원575호’로 계통명을 부여하였다. 2014년부터 2016년까지 지역적응시험 3년을 실시한 결과 그 우수성이 인정되어 2016년 12월 농촌진흥청 직무육성 신품종선정위원회에서 신품종으로 선정됨과 동시에 조생종 최고품질 품종 ‘진광’으로 명명되었다. ‘진광’의 본답생육일수는 보통기 재배에서 114일로 ‘조평’보다 6일 늦은 조생종이고, 벼 간장은 62 cm로 ‘조평’보다 12 cm 작은 단간이며, 이삭길이는 20 cm, 주당 이삭수 16개로 ‘조평’하고 비슷한 특성이고, 이삭당 입수도 100개로 ‘조평’하고 비슷하였으며. 등숙률은 75.9%로 ‘조평’보다 낮았고, 현미 천립중이 21.8 g으로 중소립종이다. ‘진광’은 도열병에 중도 저항성을 보였고, 흰잎마름병은 K1, K2, K3 균계에 저항성을 보였지만, 오갈병 및 멸구류에 대한 저항성은 없었다. ‘진광’은 단간이며 도복관련 특성이 좋았고 포장도복에도 강하게 반응하였다, 수발아는 대비품종인 ‘조평’과 비숫한 반응을 보였고, 내냉성도 대비품종하고 비슷한 수준을 보였다. ‘진광’의 백미외관은 심백이 0이고 복백이1로서 맑고 투명하였다. 알칼리붕괴도는 5.9, 단백질함량은 6.2%, 아밀로스함량은 17.9%로 ‘조평’보다 낮아서 미질특성이 우수하였고, 관능검정 결과 밥맛은0.42로 ‘조평’보다 매우 우수한 품종이었다. ‘진광’의 도정특성에서 제현율과 도정율은 대비품종인 ‘조평’보다 좋은 특성을 보였으나 도정된 쌀의 완전립률이나 완전미도정수율은 비슷한 특성을 보였다. ‘진광’ 의 쌀수량은 중부평야지, 중부중산간지 및 동북부해안지 등 8개 지역에서 보통기 보비재배 평균 5.91 MT/ha로 ‘조평’의 5.53 MT/ha 보다 7% 정도 많았다. 조생종 최고품질 품종 ‘진광’의 적응지역은 중부평야지 및 동북부해안지이다.
