  • ‘Sangbo’ is a japonica rice (Oryza sativa L.) variety with high head rice grain ratio and good ripened grain color, as well as resistance to rice dwarf virus (RDV) and bacterial blight disease (BB). It was developed by the rice breeding team of the Yeongdeok Branch of the National Institute of Crop Science, RDA, Korea, in 2015. This variety was derived in the 2002 summer season from a cross between ‘Yeongdeog32’, with high eating quality, and ‘Nampyeong’, with a high milling ratio. In 2012, a promising line, YR24256-142-5-3-1-1-2, selected by the pedigree breeding method, was designated the name, ‘Yeongdeog59’. After performing a local adaptability test at nine locations from 2013 to 2015, ‘Yeongdeog59’ was released with the name ‘Sangbo’ in 2015. ‘Sangbo’ has a culm length of 77 cm and a medium-late growth duration. This variety was resistant to K1, K2, and K3 races of bacterial blight, along with the dwarf virus, and was moderately resistant to leaf blast disease. Based on the results of a panel test, ‘Sangbo’ has translucent and clear milled rice kernel without white core and belly rice, and good eating quality. The yield potential of ‘Sangbo’ in milled rice was approximately 6.21 MT/ha at the ordinary fertilizer level of the local adaptability test (LAT). This cultivar would be adaptable to the middle plain, south plain, Yeongnam plain, east coastal area, and south mid-mountainous areas of Korea (Registration No. 7284, 2018.06.25).

영남지역은 각종 기상재해의 피해를 비롯한 바이러스 등 병해 발생이 잦은 지역으로 벼 품종의 개발의 역사는 30여년이 되었고 지금까지 많은 우수한 품종이 개발되고있으며(RDA 2009~2015) (Park et al. 2019), 또한 벼 품종 육종 선발적 측면에서 해결하고자 70년대부터 영남작물시험장에서 바이러스 포장저항성검정을 벼 지역적응성시험 항목에 도입하였으며, ‘90년대 중반부터 대형하우스를 이용한 실내검정법을 도입 저항성 벼 품종 개발이 본격적으로 수행되었다(RDA). 남부 영남평야지와 동해안 냉조풍지에 알맞은 고품질 중생종 벼 ‘상보’는 영남지역에서 기존 재배 품종인 ‘삼덕’의 도정률을 개선하고 수량성을 증대시킴으로서 ‘삼덕’ 대체품종으로 보급하기 위해 개발하였다. 2015년 12월에 개발한 ‘상보’는 백미완전립률이 97.6%로 높으며, 벼흰잎마름병과 줄무늬잎마름병 등 병해에도 강한 품종으로 특히 가을철 등숙기에 숙색이 양호하다. 쌀수량은 6.21 MT/ha으로 ‘화성’보다 11% 증수하였으며 밥맛도 좋다. 하지만 벼 키가 다소 큰 편이어서 비료 과다시용 시 쓰러짐이 우려됨으로 적정 균형시비 하여야 한다. 또한, 고품질 쌀 생산을 위해서는 적정 수확시기를 놓치면 쌀 품질과 밥맛이 떨어지는 만큼 반드시 적기 수확하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 이번에 국립식량과학원 영덕출장소에서는 벼농사의 여러 문제해결과 다양한 지역에 적응하는 다수성이면서 숙색이 뛰어나고 바이러스병 등 내병성을 갖춘 고품질 안전 다수성 벼 품종 육성을 위해 주력하여 2015년 완전미율이 높으며 밥맛이 양호하고 벼흰잎마름병 K1, K2, K3에도 저항성이 있는 ‘상보’를 육성하여 우리쌀의 수입쌀에 대응한 대외경쟁력 확보 및 기후변화에 대응한 병해충 피해를 줄이기 위해 개발 보급 하게 되어 이에 대한 육성경위와 주요특성을 보고하고자 한다(RDA 2009~2015). ‘상보’ 적응지역은 중부와 영남 평야지, 남부 중산간지, 동남부 해안지이다.
‘상보’ 품종 육성을 위해 국립식량과학원 영덕출장소(경북 영덕군 병곡면 원황리)에서 2002년 여름철에 내병성인 ‘영덕32호’를 모본으로 하고 등숙기 숙색이 좋은 ‘남평’을 부본으로 인공교배를 실시하고, 2003년 하계에 F1 식물체를 양성하여 YR24256의 교배번호를 부여하였다. 계통육성시험 및 생산력검정시험은 2004년부터 2013년까지 국립식량과학원 영덕출장소 시험포장에서 수행하였는데, 재배방법은 4월 20일 파종하여 30일간 육묘한 후 5월 20일에 30×15 cm의 재식거리로 초기세대는 주당 1본, 생산력검정 시험은 주당 3본씩 이앙하고, 시비량은 N-P2O5-K2O=9-4.5-5.7 kg/10a로 재배하고 선발하였다. 기타 재배방법은 벼 표준재배법에 따라 수행하였다(NYAES 2003-2004, YARI 2009-2015). 지역적응시험(LAT)은 2013년부터 2015년까지 3개년 동안 국립식량과학원 영덕출장소, 중부작물부(수원), 남부작물부(밀양), 충북농업기술원(청원), 경남농업기술원(진주), 경북농업기술원(대구, 선산, 안동), 충북농업기술원(보은) 등 9개소에서 보통기재배를 하였고, 밀양에서는 이모작재배를 수행하였고, 표준품종으로 ‘화성’과 ‘남평’을 공시하여 수행하였다. 각 시험지별로 보통기재배는 영덕, 수원, 보은, 청원은 4월 25일 파종하여 30일간 육묘한 후 5월 25일, 밀양, 진주, 대구, 선산, 안동은 4월 30일 파종하여 30일간 육묘한 후 5월 30일에 각각 30×15 cm의 재식거리로 주당 3본씩 이앙하였다. 이모작은 6월 1일 파종하여 25일간 육묘한 후 6월 25일에 30×12 cm의 재식거리로 주당 5본씩 이앙하였다. 그 밖의 재배관리와 품종육성을 위한 주요 농업적 특성, 수량특성, 생리장해 및 병해충 저항성, 도정특성 조사는 농촌진흥청 신품종개발공동연구사업 과제수행계획서(RDA 2013-2015) 조사기준에 준하여 실시하였다.
육성 경위
국립식량과학원 영덕출장소에서 2002년 하계에 동해안 및 영남지역에서 출수기가 적당 하면서 밥맛이 뛰어나고 재배 안정성이 높은 최고품질 벼 품종을 육성할 목적으로 내병성인 ‘영덕32호’를 모본으로 쌀알이 맑은 ‘남평’을 부본으로 인공교배를 실시하고, 2003년 하계에 32개체의 F1 식물체를 양성하여 YR24256의 교배번호를 부여하였다. 2004년 하계포장에 전개한 F2 집단을 포장과 실내 선발하여 2005년 하계에 F3세대 142계통을 육성하고, 이후 F4~F8세대를 계통육종법으로 전개하면서 예비선발 시험을 실시하고 고품질이면서 현미 외관특성이 우수하고 병해 및 재해에 안정적인 계통을 선발하여 2010년 생산력검정예비시험 2012년 생산력검정본시험을 실시 한 후 중생이면서 완전미율이 높고 숙색이 좋은 YR24256-142-5-3-1-1-2을 선발하여 ‘영덕59호’로 명명하였다(NYAES 2002-2004, NICS 2008-2012). 2013부터 2015년까지 3년간 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과 중생종이면서 다수성으로 밥맛이 양호하며 내병성이 양호한 것으로 평가되어 2015년 12월 농작물 직무육성 신품종 선정위원회에서 국가품종목록으로 등재 할 것을 결정하고 ‘상보’로 명명하여 적응지역인 중부평야지, 동남부해안지, 남부중산간지 및 영남평야지에 보급하게 되었다(RDA 2009-2015)(Fig. 1).
출수기 및 주요 농업적 특성
‘상보’의 출수기는 보통기 보비재배 시 8월 9일로 ‘화성’에 비해 1일 늦은 중생종이며, 간장은 77 cm로 ‘화성’과 비슷하고, 주당수수는 ‘화성’보다 2개 적었다. 이삭길이는 20 cm이고, 수당립수는 ‘화성’보다 19개 더 많은 편으로 5% 유의수준에서 통계적 차이를 보였다. 등숙률은 ‘화성’과 비슷한 수준이고, 현미 천립중은 ‘화성’보다 1.3 g 더 무거웠으나 연차간 변이가 커 통계적인 유의성은 없었다. 특히 등숙기 벼 숙색이 매우 양호하였다(Table 1, Figs. 2, 3).
품질특성
입형은 현미장폭비가 1.82로 단원형이며, 심백은 거의 없다. 쌀알은 ‘화성’과 같이 맑고 투명하며, 제현률은 ‘화성’과 비슷하고, 도정률과 백미완전립률은 ‘화성’보다 높았다(Table 2). 단백질함량은 ‘화성’보다 낮고, 밥맛은 ‘화성’보다 양호하였다(Table 3).
생리장해 견딜성
못자리일수 50일묘 이앙 시에 불시출수가 되지 않았으며 위조에는 강한 편이고 성숙기의 엽노화가 느린 편이다. 내냉성 검정 결과 출수지연, 임실률은 ‘화성’보다 떨어져 내냉성은 중약정도이며, 내풍성저항성 정도는 ‘화성’과 비슷하고, 수발아율은 ‘화성’보다 낮았다(Table 4).
내도복성
벼키와 3절간장이 ‘화성’과 비슷하였고, 도복지수는 ‘화성’보다 낮았으나 이앙재배 시 포장도복은 ‘화성’보다 약하였다(Table 5).
병해충 저항성
2013~2015년 전국 14개소에서 실시한 잎도열병 밭못자리 검정에서 ‘화성’과 비슷한 반응을 보였고, 이삭도열병 포장검정 6개 지역에서 6.7%의 발병을 보여 ‘화성’에 비해 약한 편이었다(Table 6). ‘상보’는 줄무늬잎마름병과 벼흰잎마름병(K1~K3)에 저항성이나 벼멸구와 애멸구에 약하였다(Table 7).
수량성
‘상보’ '12~'13년 생산력검정시험 보통기 보비재배에서 평균 쌀수량이 5.65 MT/ha으로 ‘화성’보다 16% 증수하여 5% 유의수준에서 통계적 차이를 나타내었다(Table 8). 2013~2015년 3개년간 중부평야지, 동남부해안지, 남부중산간지 및 영남평야지에서 실시한 지역적응시험 보통기 보비재배 9개소 평균 쌀수량은 6.21 MT/ha로 ‘화성(남평)’보다 11% 증수되었다. 특히, 중부평야지 등 5개 지역에서는 쌀수량이 6.12 MT/ha로 ‘화성’ 대비 17% 증수되었으나, 영남평야지에서는 6.33 MT/ha로 ‘남평’보다 3% 증수되었다. 이모작재배에서는 5.95 MT/ha로 ‘화성’ 대비 40% 증수하여 이모작 적응성이 높았다(Tables 9, 10).
재배상의 유의점
‘상보’는 중부평야지, 동해안 냉조풍지, 영남평야지 및 남부중산간지에 적응하는 중생종 품종이다. 간장이 큰 편이어서 질소질 비료 과다시 미질저하, 병해충 발생 및 도복이 우려되므로 적정균형 시비 하여야 하며, 키다리병 발병이 우려되므로 육묘 전 반드시 종자소독을 실시하고, 묘대기와 이앙시에 애멸구 방제를 철저히 하여 줄무늬잎마름병과 검은줄오갈병 발생을 미리 예방하여야 하고 벼흰잎마름병 K3a에는 약하므로 적기에 기본방제를 실시하고 이모작 적응성은 있지만 냉수용출답이나 극만식재배는 피하는 것이 좋다.
동해안 및 영남지역에서 알맞은 벼 품종을 육성할 목적으로 ‘영덕32호’와 ‘남평’을 2002년 인공교배를 실시한 후 계통육종법으로 선발 후 2011년 생산력검정예비시험, 2012년 생산력검정본시험을 거쳐 중생이면서 숙색 좋은 1계통을 ‘영덕59호’로 명명하였다. 2013~2015년 3년간 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과 우량한 특성을 보여 2015년 12월 농작물 직무육성 신품종 선정위원회에서 국가품종목록으로 등재 할 것을 결정하고 ‘상보’로 명명하였다. 출수기는 8월 9일로 중생종이며, 현미천립중은 24.1 g이고, 쌀알이 맑고 투명하며 밥맛은 ‘화성’보다 우수하다. 불시출수는 안되는 편이고, 위조현상에 강하고 성숙기 엽노화가 느린 편이다. 잎도열병에는 중간 정도의 저항성을 보였고 벼줄무늬잎마름병과 벼흰잎마름병(K1, K2, K3)에는 강하나 벼멸구 등 충해에는 감수성이다. 쌀수량은 지역적응시험 보통기재배에서 6.21 MT/ha로 ‘화성(남평)’보다 11% 증수되었고, 이모작재배에서는 5.95 MT/ha로 ‘화성’ 대비 40증수 하였다. 적응지역은 중부평야지, 남부중산간지, 동해안냉조풍지 및 영남평야지이다.
본 품종은 농촌진흥청(세부과제번호: PJ01187205 동해안 냉조풍지 적응 고품질 벼 품종 개발)의 지원에 의해 이루어진 것이며, 본 품종을 육성하기까지 협력하여 주신 국립식량과학원 벼 육종연구진, 농촌진흥청 연구정책국, 농촌지원국 및 각도 농업기술원 관계관 여러분께 깊은 감사를 드리는 바이다.
